There can be no birthday without cake nor the hearty singing. Beneficiaries of the Adam Molai Foundation in Marondera joined in celebrating the 50th birthday of its founder.
At each of the four feeding points in Dombotombo, Cherutombo and Nyameni surburbs, members of the community who are fed everyday by the foundation each got a piece of cakes provided by Adam Molai.
The executive director of the Foundation, Noma Matibiri, said that it was fitting that beneficiaries share in the celebrations of the founder, Mr Molai who grew up in the same community. He established the foundation in 2016 reminiscent of the kind of philanthropy his late father was known for.
“We have built a very strong relationship with the community through the programmes that we have implemented here,”
“The sharing of Mr Molai’s birthday cake is symbolic of that and is our way of showing them that they are part of the extended family,” she said.
The icing on the cake, literally, was the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the volunteers who cook and feed the beneficiaries.
The volunteers are the backbone of the success of the feeding programme. The foundation ensures that needy members of the community get at least one meal a day.
The Adam Molai Foundation feeds over 500 people at 4 sites in Marondera.
More sustainable interventions in the form of a soap making project are being implemented for members of the community to benefit in the long term.
